Baseball tonight/Underrated Halloween flick

OK, guys. Sorry it took so long to get to this. Automobile woes, etc. Is anybody else excited about tonight’s baseball? I can’t wait.

Here’s what we’ve got (most of you probably know this, but if not):

-Boston and Tampa Bay tied for the AL wildcard lead with one game to play. Both are on TV locally tonight. Boston (Jon Lester pitching) plays at Baltimore (Alfredo Simon) at 7 p.m. on MASN. Red Sox are a 9-to-5 favorite. The Rays (David Price) host the Yankees (TBA) at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

-Atlanta and St. Louis are tied for the NL wildcard lead. The Braves (Tim Hudson) host the Phillies (Joe Blanton) at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. The Cardinals (Chris Carpenter) are at Houston (Brett Myers) at 8 p.m. ESPN2 will pick up the game AFTER the completion of the Braves game.

-So this is awesome, right? If we’re still tied after tonight, the Rays will host the Red Sox at 4:07 p.m. tomorrow. The Cardinals would host the Braves tomorrow at 8 p.m. Home field was determined by head-to-head record during the regular season. Pretty sure both games would be on ESPN, but I’ll let you know for sure tomorrow morning in the event this happens.

-I think the Cardinals have the best chance to lose, followed (in order) by the Red Sox, Rays and Braves. What do you guys think?

UNDERRATED HALLOWEEN MOVIE
-I’m not going to link to the trailer, but it’s easy to find: “Trick ‘r Treat.” Surprisingly good stuff.

Here’s another underrated Halloween specials – Garfield and “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” Classics.

As for baseball, nope, not as excited as Clemson-Tech game.

For the baseball, the Braves having Hudson will be a big help…I think they win tonight. The Cardinals, I see that game being a low-scoring pitcher’s duel, as Myers has run together a strong September and has historically done well against St. Louis. I think the Cards win though, and force a tiebreaker, but they probably have the best opposing pitcher facing them of the 4 teams.

For the AL, I just don’t see the Rays losing. They’re pitching Price, and the Yankees will throw the kitchen sink. They’re looking to the ALDS, and trying to figure out their #3 pitcher, because they have no real option right now. The Sox…I still don’t feel good about them, and I think they lose in spectacular fashion tonight. They almost lost last night, but Papelbon managed to not blow another save. They may need to rely on Aceves for long-relief, but he pitched quite a bit yesterday, so the odds of them digging into the bullpen for extended innings could get dicey.

For a one-game playoff, I think the Cards would have the better shot at winning, because the Braves are still dealing with the late-season injury bug that took a lot of their oomph away.

I never saw Trick r Treat so I have to vote for It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Charlie Brown getting a bag full of rocks reminds me of Nappy in the old days.

Braves win tonight. Blanton pitches no more than 4 innings and Hudson is throwing for the Braves.

It’s not underrated by a mile, but I did hear they are re-releasing Ghostbusters in theaters for Halloween.

Other than that maybe Ernest Scared Stupid. I mean did they ever make an Ernest movie that wasn’t so awful it was awesome? Jim Varney left us too soon. We’ll never know how great “Ernest ends the NFL lockout” could have been.

I’m a lifelong Red Sox fan. We’ve had plenty of disappointments. But this has been the greatest choke job of alltime by the Bosox, especially considering the talent this team has. I’ve just watched my last baseball game of the season. Excuse me while I go throw up.

Well, I got the teams right that would advance, but as for how they advanced, not even close…aside from Boston losing in spectacular fashion. Whodathunk that the Rays could rally from a 7-0 deficit and win in extra innings? The Cards absolutely trashed Myers and the Astros, while the Braves let a sure win slip away. An amazing final night of baseball…I think we can only hope the playoffs have this much drama. What a night.

    And, Go Tigers!

dave, it’s kinda funny, but yesterday Colin Cowherd was mentioning the baseball attitude of fans in Boston, that if the Sox aren’t in the playoffs, they don’t watch the playoffs.

Maybe it’s because I’m a lifelong Tigers fan and they had so many years of futility or outright crappiness, but I enjoy watching the playoffs, even when the Tigers aren’t in it, which has been true more often than not.

    OJ

Most years I feel the same way. And I probably will really give in this time too. But this one was so disgusting I need a little break!
