Friday: Feels like football

I’ll update this later, but a few things to know for today:

-Randy King has a feature on Virginia Tech cornerback Cris Hill.

-Here’s Robert Anderson’s high school football prediction column for tonight. I’ll be at Cave Spring-Lord Botetourt.

-Jeff Gordon calls Paul Menard’s spinout at Richmond “a little fishy.” “If any of that is true of what’s being speculated right now, all I can say is I’ve lost a lot of respect for Paul Menard,” Gordon said Thursday at a media event in a Chicago pub. “[Menard] might have just lost it off of Turn 4 and caution came out. But when you listen to the radio, and I’ve had other people translate it to me, it sounds a little fishy.”

-No. 3 LSU knocks off No. 25 Mississippi State, 19-6.

-Rays pound the Red Sox to cut the AL wildcard deficit to 3.

If Menard did what Gordon says, I’m sure he’s not the first. I bet Gordon or J.J. had a teammate who was out of the chase, they want them to do the same thing in that situation. Those two guys get a little holier than thou every now and then. I don’t think it happens much anymore, but some drivers (Robby Gordon) used to pull foam off their roll bars and throw it out the window to get a caution for debris on the track.

Looking forward to a great weekend of football. Finally some cooler weather to make things a little bearable. Wow, if the Rays keep Boston out of the playoffs the Yankees might make a run to the series. Otherwise I see Boston taking them down in 5 games.

It does feel like football. The weather’s just perfect – not too hot nor too cold. Just right.

Anyone else wonder about the end of the LSU MSU game? MSU was only trailing by 13, moved the ball down field in the final 4 minutes, but wound up leaving three timeouts on the shelf, and the game ended with them throwing a 1st down pass into the end zone.

Ken, I watched 3 quarters of the game, and wasn’t very impressed with either team. LSU actually looked beatable in the game, but as usual the defense stepped it up. I also thought that Lee looked good, and I suspect they are calling safe passes so he can look good.

My issue with Miss. State’s play calling was near halftime. They called 3 straight QB draw on LSU’S 8 yard line, and they stuffed the run. I was shaking my head, and they never even call a timeout to discuss strategy.

I think both teams didn’t really capitalize on opportunities.

So Gordon thinks it`s a little fishy that Menard spun out allowing Harvick to haul butt past a floundering Gordon and 16 laps later perch in the winners circle. That does sound a little fishy. Sorry. Slow day at work.

    I’m hooked, Ralph!

The Red Sox will pull the AL East off. They just want to give all us members of Red Sox Nation our annual heart attack first. I’ve been watching them too long to let them make me lose faith now.

Aaron, did you hear that the Terps will be without service of their two starting receivers for a good while?

How will that affect the outcome against West, by God, Virigina?
