Miami-UVa in-game blog

Final: Virginia 41, Miami 40. Great game.

THIRD QUARTER

We head to the fourth with Miami leading 31-28 and facing a third-and-1 from the UVa 41. Cavs were held scoreless in the period. The only scoring drive was a 52-yard march by Miami midway through the period.

SECOND QUARTER

The Cavaliers head to the locker room holding a 28-24 lead in a game featuring one big play after another.

Michael Rocco looks terrific today – the most poised and confident I’ve ever seen him. He’s got great rhythm, timing, touch, all of it. He’s led three touchdown drives, including the go-ahead score with 4:16 left in the half after
Miami had kicked a field goal to take a brief lead. He goes to the half 11 of 12 for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

Wave bye-bye to that streak of three straight games of UVa’s defense holding an opponent under 250 total yards. The
Hurricanes already have 221. Several explosive plays from running back Duke Johnson, who has a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He also completed a touchdown pass on his first career attempt in the air.

Hail, commonwealth. UVa and Virginia Tech might be the only teams in the country who haven’t destroyed the Canes on the ground with their tailbacks. Kevin Parks is averaging 2.8 yards on his eight carries.

Miami ranks 119th out of 120 FBS teams in rushing defense (246 yards per game) but has allowed only 89 today. That total’s been built on the strength of a 21-yard reverse by receiver Darius Jennings, a 17-yard scramble by Rocco and a pair of 6-yard runs by Sims. Guess that’s OK if you’re passing it the way the Wahoos are today.

Miami gets the ball to start the second half.

FIRST QUARTER

We’ve got ourselves a track meet in Charlottesville, as the Wahoos score three touchdowns in the first 13:20 and lead 21-14 after the opening quarter.

Michael Rocco went 7-for-8 for 118 yards and two touchdowns on UVa’s first two drives. He was removed for Phillip Sims as determined before the game, and Sims drove the Cavs for a touchdown of his own.

Miami driving again. Hope you took the over.

UVA has eleven men running around on a field up in C’ville just like VA Tech does down in Blackburg. But I sure didn’t know either one of them called it football or even pretended that it was football! I thought it was either powderpuff or flag something or other! Both colleges are scamming their alums out of their money by claiming to play football!

Rocco looks solid on the first drive. I see the kickoff for next week’s UNC game is at 7:30 on ESPN. I thought UVA would go the whole season without one home game in primetime.

    Covering the wahoos again?

  4. Drew | November 10, 2012 at 1:19 pm

Is this a BIG 12 game?

  5. RP | November 10, 2012 at 3:06 pm

It’s not a Big 12 game; it’s just an ACC game without Stinespring calling plays.

  6. Drew | November 10, 2012 at 3:27 pm

Wow, what a game. Congrats, Hoos.

  7. hokie hater | November 10, 2012 at 3:53 pm

Where was this offense all season? I’ll take it better late than never, a lot to build on for next year. This team is young and getting better every week. WAHOOWA

It will probably take Berman his normal ten hours to post the results of the Hokie basketball, so I’ll comment here. Hokies win 80-62 over ETSU. Congrats to Johnson & team for a good, solid performance. Shooting percentages from the floor were good, even on 3 pointers. FT shooting still needs some work, but that’s okay for now. Looks like the guys got off to a nice win, so that is good for everyone involved.

hey, hokie hater, most Tech fans hate you too, you better hope the wind is not blowing in Blacksburg when they play, that has been your excuse for years. Maybe London can whine more like he did in the Miami game and get a few ref calls. Wahoowa, what kind of thing is that ?? maybe a feather capped weird guy falling off the horse. Wahoowa ???????????

  10. JSwift | November 10, 2012 at 5:00 pm

Wow comment about our mascot from Other Tony really hurts after a thrilling win. Who cares about the mascot name? Hokie or Wahoo; both sound pretty funny. London whines and Beamer looks baffled and lost. So what? Doubt if you come in here and troll about minucia, you’d be a Nick Saban on the sidelines yourself. Check the ACC Standings, VT is on the bottom and has nothing to brag about.

Ho hum! Or should we say, Hokie hum.

  12. hokie hater | November 10, 2012 at 5:39 pm

Sounds like someone is a little upset that the Hoos beat Miami, while his CHOKIES did their usual choke job against FSU. Not to mention they lost to Miami, tech fans seriously have no room to talk trash this year, last I checked both teams are 4-6. The difference UVA didn’t play Austin Peay, or Bowling Green. If talking bad about UVA makes you feel better about how bad the Hokies are go ahead us WAHOOS will just keep laughing.

  13. the other Tony | November 10, 2012 at 9:30 pm

If you win this year, I guess beating the Hokies once every 10 years is OK with the wahoowa faithful.

  14. gdad | November 10, 2012 at 11:16 pm

Better win than anything the Hokies have accomplished this year.

  15. crooked road | November 11, 2012 at 9:51 am

The one thing this game did for Hokie fans was remind us that it won’t be a cakewalk on the 24th, as much as we’d prefer.

  16. Beamer Best all-time | November 11, 2012 at 12:42 pm

Hokie Hater you can laugh all you want but we always have the last laugh we play the BooHoos the end of every year and guess what it is a sweet victory for us. So laugh at your own program where you expect to lose 8 games a year or a .500 record is a great season. We win 10 a year. Who is laughing now.

I find this very interesting….Hokies….4-6 and the Hoos…4-6….. Very interesting..could be a shoot out at the OK corral ….come Thanksgiving weekend..

  18. Huntersdad | November 11, 2012 at 10:12 pm

Sorry I missed this opportunity until now…..Hokie Hater, honestly the Cavs have been impressive the last two weeks and I hope it continues for them against the Heels. That way the Hoos and all their pompous fans like yourself can get brought back to earth at your annual ass kicking compliments of the Hokies. I know it, almost every blogger here knows it and deep inside you do too….the Hokies own your asses…..period.
