-Ownership betrayal is still a hot topic in Miami. I feel for the few diehard Marlins fans who do exist. Gotta say, though, if I’m a politician, the last place I’m going to vote to publicly finance a stadium is Miami, where sports interest is so tepid.
-Meanwhile, Jeffrey Loria insists this was no fire sale. “We finished in last place,” he says. “Figure it out.”
-Part of me says he’s exactly right. I mean, do you really want to move forward with an aging nucleus of Jose Reyes, Mark Buerhle, et al? What’s getting lost in all this is that those guys, at their ages, aren’t all that great — especially if you’re not in position to make a serious run now. The suggestion that they could have gotten a lot more in return for those guys is absurd, if you ask me. They made a huge blunder signing all those guys and are starting over. We’ll see if they spend some money on some younger guys in the winter meetings.
