THIS IS ONE OF THOSE DAYS WHERE I’D STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to pick up a hard copy of the paper if you don’t subscribe (the other days are when the college and high school previews come out and the day the bowl guide runs). Page 7 of today’s sports section has a capsule on every team in the NCAA field. Useful stuff all in one place.
The bracket is out, and your No. 1 seeds are Louisville, Kansas, Indiana and Gonzaga. My column today addresses the icy reception the ACC got from a selection committee that has two members with strong conference ties. The teams that got in (Miami, Duke, UNC and N.C. State) got no favors.
We’ll talk a lot more about the NCAAs as they approach, but feel free to toss out your first round upsets, final four picks, championship picks or any other thoughts you have on the field (my picks are in the column — going with Miami for the title).
KASEY KAHNE WINS AT BRISTOL, but the bigger story is the bad blood between former teammates Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano. “If we didn’t [have issues], we do now,” Logano said. “Send that message. Tweet that.”
-The Miami Heat wins its 22nd in a row, tying the second-longest winning streak in NBA history. The NBA’s longest streak is 33 games, set by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers. Miami plays at Boston tonight (8 p.m., ESPN).
-Puerto Rico earns a spot in the WBC finals by eliminating two-time defending champion Japan. The Netherlands and Dominican Republic play at 9 p.m. today (MLB Network) in the other semifinal.
NAME THAT TUNE
This don’t mean that
You own me
This ain’t no good
In fact it’s phony as hell
But things worked out just like you wanted to
If you see me out
You don’t know me
Try to turn your head
Try to give me some room
To figure out just what I’m going to do
And everyone here
Hates everyone here for doing just like they do
It’s best if we all keep this quiet instead
And I couldn’t tell
Why everyone here was doing me like they do
But I’m sorry now, and I don’t know how…
