There are lots of new bells and whistles to check out on our Age of Uncertainty Web site, including two new videos by photographer Josh Meltzer: one of the inimitable geriatrician warrior Dr. Michael Camardi, and the other about the softer-spoken -- but no less passionate -- Dr. Dave Trinkle.
Josh has also been busy recording some of the stories submitted by readers. These include two new moving accounts of life as a caregiver, written and read by Martha Myers and Karen Watson. As Myers wrote in a poignant e-mail to me after the series began: "Love hurts." Search for these "Audio Essays" under the Galleries tab at the top of the home page.
For those of you who want more hard numbers to back up the thesis of this series -- that we're not nearly as prepared as we should be for the increasing numbers of elderly people in our region -- look no further than our interactive map, produced by Tracy Boyer. You can see how localities in the New River and Roanoke valley regions compare to other parts of the state, and you can also see how Virginia compares to other states in terms of Medicaid funding.
Meantime, as always, I look forward to hearing your comments on the latest story. Have you had trouble finding doctors with geriatric expertise? Share your story with other readers here.
