Feedback on Sunday's story on the house-call doctor Alice Inouye has been full of praise for the doctor who sees bedbound patients -- whether she gets paid for it or not.
Several readers have wanted to know how to make donations to Inouye's Jubilee Housecalls, which has not been reimbursed by Medicare during its five years in existence. Here's the mailing address:

Some have just called or written to share their own experience working with Inouye, such as this e-mail from Vinton reader Mary Zirkle:
Ms. Macy,
I want to thank you for introducing the Valley to Dr. Inouye. As my family searched for dwindling geriatric care options in Roanoke and Vinton for my 99 year old grandmother, we came upon Dr. Inouye, who was with us to the end last September. She was available literally 24 hours a day for help. She ministered to my family after my grandmother passed and was genuinely saddened by her passing. I know the only way Dr. Inouye can do the job she does and with such a compassionate spirit is because she has been given a gift from God.
Thanks again for bringing the sacrificial medical practice of Dr.
Inouye to light.
Sincerely,
Mary Zirkle
Vinton, VA
Eliza Yeatts, a 92-year-old widow in Franklin County, called to praise Inouye for her work in treating people who can't easily get out to the doctor. "She is doing a superb work," Yeatts said.

More praise for Dr. Inouye:
I've heard from several more folks who want to contribute to Dr. Inouye's mission. One was worried that the money wouldn't go directly to her (it will), another wanted to know if a Kroger gift card was an acceptable donation (I'm sure it is.)
Inouye herself was typically humbled by the response, and I'll write to see if she'll share her thoughts about it on this blog. Stay tuned!
From Dr. Inouye:
I asked Dr. Inouye to talk about the response to the story. Here's what she wrote:
Many responses of encouragement, of thanks, of appreciation and generous gifts have come since the article was published which the Lord orchestrated and Beth wrote! Our deep thanks go to each of you who have given and responded so kindly. Many thanks to Beth, whose wondrous gift of writing is evidence of God working in her to touch others' lives...and to Josh, whose gift of seeing through the lens of his camera, speaks of his heart which is willing to see beyond the here and now. The greatest praise, the greatest thanks, is to our Lord and Savior Jesus. He is the One who has done in and through Jubilee Housecalls...He is our Creator, He is our Father, He is our Friend, He is the One who fills us with His joy unspeakable. He is the One Who loves, strengthens and grows us in His love and "stuff happens" that brings great joy, changed lives and the glory is His. It is He Who has done it! And we have had such blessing and fun joining Him in the journey! He says to each of us: Follow Me. I will make you...and so He has. The Lord is so good.
thanks Beth for everything. Hope to see you around. alice
