VT is a premier football program. Maybe not top 5-10 but they are in the 10-20 range every year. How many other programs can say that? Anyone can see that with just a little better recruiting in state and hiring a good OC, that VT could take the next step and be in the elite. Almost anyone would want the job. Therefore they will be able to pick almost whoever they want to be Beamer's successor. This is not like maroon's or ghostturd's team which are probably ACC teams that VT beats every year. This is a good, solid, winning football program that is attractive to any coach

Have coached basketball @ many levels and have had assistants leave with axe to grind and gone to competitor and had come to me likewise. Happens more times than people would believe. A good coach puts no value in any info relayed. As stated there is a reason this coach has left. If you cannot look at film and tell where you got kicked then you do not have ability to use information if useful. In this case it was obvious VT got destroyed at line of scrimmage both sides of ball. Sounds like adjustments on D and O already where in the thought process. On O quicker pace before D makes adjustments should mask some deficiencies on line. The D adjustments are like stated. A copy of proven formula to stop new trend is why there are always new ways of doing things everyday. Andy, you are doing a terrific job and keep doing things the way you are. You do cover VT football and report what you know. I would suggest people that do not like that may find another blog more to their liking.

Stack, what you said earlier was, "...spill his guts about the Clemson offense and what Steele did to dominate the VT offense."

Seeing how Steele was the defensive coordinator, I would think his info about how his defense handled the VT offense would be what was most valuable to VT, since that it what relates directly to VT.

True, Steele practiced against the Clemson offense each day, and has seen more of them than most. Did he have any success in stopping them? Did his defense consistantly stop the Clemson offense? Do any of us know that? Is there anything that says that he is capable of putting together a defense that could stop the Clemson offense? Just because he saw them every day doesn't mean he had any success against it. And again, judging by what WVU did to his defense, how much faith would you put in Steele to construct a defense that can slow down any high-octane offense?

If Clemson really thought that Steele was releasing any ground-breaking information, I think there might be more of a stink going on.

We got a breaking news story folks! Coach gets fired. Goes to another school to share his knowledge! What shocking news.

First, is it really a FACT that Steele went to VT to share his knowledge or is it another ASSumption? Could be fact - I have no clue but please share how you know it is fact.

Second, who cares? It isn't shocking or news.

hokie24,

Once again, you are missing the point. He practiced against that offense everyday, so I'm sure he had some understanding of how to defend Clemson's offense.

You got me, I am pretending, a smart guy like you can see right through that...

Also Stack, seeing how Steele was Clemson's defensive coordinator... and after seeing WVU hang 70 points on them... I'm gonna go ahead and declare that any defensive secrets that Steele may have had, or believed that he had, are out.

Stack,

I really don't think that South Carolina papers, or Dabo, or anyone else really is gonna care. Now if their coach had ran to South Carolina to share info, then maybe it would be a back page story.

Why pretend that what Clemson did to stop VT is any kind of secret that Steele had to let out of the bag? Clemson pounded VT twice. Secret's out! We can all watch the tapes from any and all angles and see that.

Are you trying to pretend that you have a "job in athletics," since you apparently believe that you have some understanding of this situation that the rest of us are apparently not capable of?
