The 6-foot-4, 300-pound Miller was also on the spring watch list for the award. Here’s the full list for the fall.
A junior from Bassett, Miller started all 14 games last year and played 900 snaps, fighting through late-season hip and ankle injuries. He won the team’s President’s Award as the offensive player who displayed outstanding leadership in the offseason program and returns as one of the Hokies’ most experienced offensive lineman.
Miller is one of five ACC centers on the Rimington list, joining Georgia Tech’s Jay Finch, Clemson’s Dalton Freeman, Duke’s Brian Moore and N.C. State’s Camden Wentz.
Jake Grove won the trophy for Virginia Tech in 2003.
The Hokies had nobody on the watch list for the Mackey Award, which is given to the nation’s top tight end.
Here are Virginia Tech players who made previous watch lists:
- QB Logan Thomas: Maxwell (top overall player)
- DE James Gayle: Bednarik (top defensive player)
- LB Bruce Taylor: Bednarik
- CB Kyle Fuller: Bednarik
