One-day Hokies summer camp yields ’13 commitments from Kyle Chung, Brandon Facyson
I’m at the beach this weekend, verbally committing to drinking a margarita, so I missed Virginia Tech’s one-day summer prospect camp today.
Several outlets — the Washington Post, Richmond Times-Dispatch, VTscoop.com, HokieHaven.com and TechSideline.com to name a few — were out there and reported the news of these commitments this afternoon.
Virginia Tech’s one-day summer camp yielded a pair of commitments Saturday, as tight end Kyle Chung and receiver/cornerback Brandon Facyson both said they will sign with the Hokies in 2013.
Chung, a 6-foot-4, 255-pounder from Ponte Vedra (Fla.) High, is the son of former Hokies All-American Eugene Chung (1988-91), a standout tackle who would later play six years in the NFL with the Patriots, Jaguars and Colts.
Kyle, who some think could also transition to tackle, is a three-star recruit according to Rivals and 247 Sports. The latter lists him as the No. 22 tight end nationally.
He picked Tech over more than a dozen offers, including Miami and Arkansas. Defensive line coach Charley Wiles was his primary recruiter.
Facyson, a 6-foot-2, 182-pound two-way player from Newnan, Ga., committed a few hours later.
He’s a three-star recruit who 247 Sports and Rivals rank as the 41st and 45th best cornerback nationally, respectively. His other finalists were Georgia Tech and Wake Forest.
Facyson played both ways for Northgate High last year, earning all-county honors at receiver (18 catches, 294 yards, 4 TDs) and all-region honors at defensive back (47 tackles, 3 interceptions).
Cornerbacks coach Torrian Gray was his primary recruiter.
Chung is the Hokies’ first commitment this year from Florida, while Facyson is the first from Georgia.
Tech now has 14 commitments for 2013. Here’s an updated list:
- Kyle Chung, TE, 6-4, 255 Ponte Vedra, Fla. (Ponte Vedra)
- Charles Clark, DB, 5-11, 180, Suffolk (King’s Fork)
- Brandon Facyson, DB/WR, 6-2, 182 Newnan, Ga. (Northgate)
- Holland Fisher, DB, 6-2, 205, Midlothian (Manchester)
- Bucky Hodges, QB, 6-5, 225, Virginia Beach (Salem)
- Cequan Jefferson, ATH, 5-11, 167, Richmond (Henrico)
- Jamieon Moss, LB, 6-1, 210, Elizabeth City, N.C. (Northeastern)
- Andrew Motu’apuaka, LB, 6-0, 210, Virginia Beach (Salem)
- Deon Newsome, ATH, 5-11, 170, Hampton (Hampton)
- Parker Osterloh, OL, 6-7, 268, Williamsburg (Warhill)
- Carlis Parker, QB/ATH, 6-4, 187, Statesville, N.C. (Statesville)
- Braxton Pfaff, OL, 6-5, 290, Lynchburg (Liberty Christian)
- David Prince, ATH, 6-0, 175, Roanoke (Patrick Henry)
- Anthony Shegog, DB, 6-2, 195, Stafford (North Stafford)

Good day for the Hokies! Chung will be a great O lineman and 300 plus pounds by the time he is a r-sophomore. Facyson is a good get too, but tells me Tech is worried they won’t get Fuller. I think Fuller is a done deal for Clemson….he would have committed to Tech by now if he was going there. Agree Andy?
Not winning any championship with that list of recruits.
Andy- why is ESPN calling Facyson a 4 start recruit?
Also, still hadn’t heard why P. Sims didn’t have to sit out a year?
Thanks.
I hate we’re going to lose Fuller.
YIKES ! If Holland Fisher switches to Alabama, the 2013 VT recruiting class looks like a DISASTER !!! Where is the ‘boatload’ of 4 & 5 star recruits needed to achieve a break-thru to the MNC ? Same ole song; just the second verse – -
Joe,
Fuller not going anywhere but VT. He was totally at home yesterday at the camp.
Drew,
If you are a Hoo, quit hating, and if you are a Hokie, become a Hoo. UVA-c would love to have a fan – they have plenty of seats each year.
Who said we are going to lose out on Fuller? Facyson has had an offer for some time and projects more as a S with his size . A spot will be saved for Fuller and I think he will be a Hokie when all is said and done.
Furthermore, We will land DJ Reid soon enough and still are in the running for Green and Hamilton, Teller is not completely out of the picture either but he will likely be a Hoo.
Sims’ father is reportedly at UVA being treated for an undisclosed illness. It was in Doughty’s article.
If Fuller goes somewhere other than Tech it does not speak well of Tech.
So far this is just another typical recruiting class for Tech.
Drew, way to be positive. The recruiting season is halfway done and you’re already crying. Who has talked to Fuller and knows which way he is leaning? Last reported he was down to 12 schools. Hopefully all powers will sway him to come to Blacksburg, but who could blame him for going to Clemson if he does? They’ll be a flash in the pan like they always have been and Dabo will be gone in 5 years or less.
I have to agree with the other Hokies on Fuller. I have seen no indication Fuller made his decision – through Andy’s blog or on Twitter. I follow VTScoop and they haven’t said anything about Fuller, so I’m sure he is entertaining his options right now. So far, Tech have landed several potential stars for 2013 and 2014. Without a doubt, landing Fuller would be a jewel in the class, but let’s not get stressed about it.
Fisher is a Hokie..and will remain a Hokie.
DJ Reid is Hokie almost 100%.
Hamilton and Teller we have a shot at.
Fuller is down to us and Clemson..I think he will be a Hokie..almost guarantee it.
We will have a fighter’s chance at the #1 RB in the land Derrick Green, It will come down to VT, Clemson, OSU, and Michigan. The longer it drags on, the better for VT.
IF we land 3 of these guys, VT will have a top 10-15 class. If we lose out on all of them it will be a failure (especially Fuller) but it will not be the end of the world. Frank and Co. has been doing more with less touted/high profile guys for years. They develop players as good as anyone for the college game.
I forgot to mention Michigan with Fuller, they are a dark horse..but they have a distant shot if they keep on him.
