Top CB prospect Kendall Fuller’s decision coming Sunday

Cornerback Kendall Fuller, a five-star recruit from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Olney, Md., will choose between Virginia Tech and Clemson on Sunday at noon at the Gridiron Kings, a prospect event in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. It will be online on ESPN3.

Follow me on Twitter and Facebook.

The Gridiron Kings features 65 of the nation’s top skill position players. It’ll take place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from Friday through Sunday.

Fuller tweeted the news this afternoon. Rivals ranks him as the No. 1 cornerback nationally and the No. 3 overall prospect. 247 Sports has him as the No. 2 cornerback and the No. 12 overall prospect.

His recruitment has been of high interest for Hokies fans. All three of Fuller’s older brothers — Vincent, Corey and Kyle – have attended Virginia Tech. The latter two are currently on the roster.

Fuller visited Clemson last weekend, a week after making his most recent trip to Virginia Tech for the Hokies’ one-day camp. He sported a haircut he debuted previously at Nike’s The Opening that featured a Virginia Tech logo on one side of his head and a Clemson one on the other.

Kyle Fuller, currently a Hokies cornerback, talked about his younger brother’s recruitment at the ACC Kickoff earlier this week, saying he’s let his opinions be known.

“I used to just sit back,” he said. “Recently, I’ve been saying a little bit more. Not too much, but he knows what I want him to do.”

My gut feeling is he’s going to Clemson.

    100% VT!!!

Would’ve worried if it went all the way till signing day or something. Not so much now.

Clemson is a one trick pony. Until the bowl game with WVU, everything went their way. We’ll see this year. Ole Dabo hasn’t shown he can consistently put a winner on the field. I’m seeing 3 loses minimum for them this year unless the football gods smile on them again. If he wants to play in the NFL, it’s Tech. Look at the past draft history of Tech c’backs drafted.

Good luck….as much ad VT has the family, it looks like Clemson will have him.

“Good luck….as much ad VT has the family, it looks like Clemson will have him.”

So what exactly makes it “look” like he’s headed to Clemson? He could go to either VT or Clemson, but I don’t see anything that makes it “look” like he’s publically leaning either way.

Clemson is as much a one trick pony as VT is.

If we lose him I will never have confidence in this staff again just like in big games.

Will the announcement be made by bringing out a razor and shaving off the side he doesn’t choose?

The Washington Post blog says that his visit to Clemson last week was to show his mother around campus and talk to the coaches about the defensive back situation. That doesn’t sound good for Tech.

“The Washington Post blog says that his visit to Clemson last week was to show his mother around campus and talk to the coaches about the defensive back situation. That doesn’t sound good for Tech.”

Well… why else exactly would any college recruit visit any school? To look around campus and talk to coaches about the positions that they would play, right?

Seeing as his brothers have already likely shown his mother around the VT campus, that part is a bit of a non-point for Fuller.

For God’s sake, he is one guy. He isn’t nor will he be the whole team. If he ends up at Clemson it is because he wants to blaze his own trail instead of following in his brothers footsteps. In a sense if that is the reason, then I will say I can not blame him for choosing Clemson. He has high school friends committed to Clemson. In fact the one is his best friend now in high school. VT can always find another kid to play CB. Aren’t they(VT) supposed to have the rep of taking 2 and 3 stars and making them into 1st or 2nd round NFL draft picks? Gosh, some of you can be real drama queens.

Fuller has already said it’s not going to be about doing his own thing

  13. Dan | July 27, 2012 at 7:30 pm

As much as I hate to, I have to agree with Proof Reader. My personal feeling is that if Kendall was as much of a VT lock as people think, he would have committed long ago. My gut says Clemson. PR is also right about the DB situation at Tech. Just glance at the 14 verbals that Tech already has, nearly half of them are from DBs or potential DBs and they have standing offers out to others. It almost seems that the Tech staff has been preparing itself for life without the Fullers (as Kyle will probably jump to the NFL if he has another good season). I hope Kendall picks the Hokies, but I won’t hold my breath.

IF BEAMER CAN’T RECRUIT A ‘KID’ WHOSE WHOLE FAMILY HAS A ‘LUV’ AFFAIR WITH VIRGINIA TECH, THEN WHAT CAN YOU SAY ??? NOT PICKING VT MAKES SENSE TO ME, IF THE COMPETITION WAS AUBURN, BAMA, LSU, GEORGIA, etc., BUT WHY IN THIS WORLD WOULD ANY 5 STAR MARYLAND RECRUIT PICK clemson ??? EVEN SOUTH CAROLINA WOULD BE A BETTER CHOICE THAN clemson TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE HIGH LEVEL OF COMPETITION THAT THE SEC OFFERS, OVER A 3 TO 4 YEAR PLAYING CAREER.

Looks like he wil commit to Tech according to 247sports.com.NICE!

  18. Frank | July 28, 2012 at 7:25 am

    Let’s go Hokies !!!

  19. Tony | July 28, 2012 at 8:55 am

Laughing at you people who are wigging on this commitment and calling him to Clemson! KF is 1000% Hokie. The fact that he is committing this soon, his mother is a huge supporter of VT (she isn’t a Clemson fan, especially after this past weekend …wink.wink), and his older 3 brothers are formers is all you need to know. If he went to Dabo..I would be SHOCKED!

    Prepare to be shocked Tony.
