WR Jarrett Boykin makes final cut with Packers, one of 20 former Hokies on active NFL rosters
Jarrett Boykin‘s final audition proved to be a valuable one. The former Hokies wide receiver made a strong enough impression to make the Green Bay Packers’ 53-man roster after final cuts were announced Friday night.

The undrafted free agent didn’t catch on immediately after a tryout with the Jacksonville Jaguars but got a second chance after signing a free agent deal with Green Bay.
Boykin caught five passes for 82 yards and a 12-yard touchdown in the team’s preseason finale Thursday against the Kansas City Chiefs. He’ll be the Packers’ sixth receiver.
Boykin finished his college career as Virginia Tech’s career leader with 184 catches for 2,884 yards.
He is one of 19 former Virginia Tech players who made active NFL rosters. He, along with running back David Wilson and cornerback Jayron Hosley of the New York Giants, are the only players from last year’s team to make NFL rosters this season.
Receiver Danny Coale and safety Eddie Whitley were among several cuts by the Dallas Cowboys on Friday. Coale, a fifth-round draft pick, broke his foot during an offseason rookie mini-camp and didn’t have a chance to establish himself in training camp.
Waived players could be eligible to be added to practice squads of teams in the upcoming days. (UPDATE: Coale was signed to the Cowboys’ practice squad Saturday)
** UPDATE: Contrary to earlier reports, safety Cody Grimm was not released by Tampa Bay and is on the team’s 53-man roster.

Good for him ! I hope he has a long career.
This list speaks well for Virginia Tech.
Some of these players were not highly regarded recruits and they became good players. It also shows that the coaches have a good process to evaluate players.
Best wishes to all of these young men.
Let’s go Hokies !!!
Congratulations to those who made it onto the rosters. You all have made Hokies Nation proud.
Some surprising names being cut– Eddie Whitley, Darren Evans (aww), David Clowney, and the Beard.
Word here on Texas sports radio is that Danny Coale was cut reluctantly by the Cowboys. They are hoping he clears waivers so that they can re-sign him to the practice squad.
I feel bad for Danny Cole, I know getting hurt didn’t help . I feel like he will get picked up. Nobody plays with more heart. He has the skills to play in the not for long league . I will never forget the look of pain and exhaustion on his face when we got hosed on the touchdown call in the sugar bowl. If I had a team I would want a hole team full of Danny’s . Go hokies !
I know from my inside source that they want to keep Coale and are hoping that a year on the practice squad will bring him along. They also want him around in case of injury.
Clowney has had trouble catching on. I think this is a challenge in that the league is really receiver rich.
I still think Evans got bad advice and needed one more year at VT. I hope he gets picked up. I am sympathetic to his personal story.
Adibi should also get picked up.
I wish them all well. Its really nice to see Shane get another shot, too.
Evans was picked up for the Titans practice squad. The beard is on IR (back). I think Brooks was cut.
