LG David Wang ruled out for Bowling Green; CB Kyle Fuller probable
Left guard David Wang has been officially ruled out for Virginia Tech’s game against Bowling Green on Saturday, while cornerback Kyle Fuller is listed as probable on the Hokies’ Thursday injury report.
Follow me on Twitter and Facebook.
Wang suffered a sprained left ankle against Pittsburgh that initially looked more serious. He was carted off the field and coaches feared he broke the ankle. X-rays were negative, however. He was in a blue, limited-contact jersey this week doing drills but was still ruled out for Saturday.
The Hokies worked senior Michael Via and redshirt sophomore Matt Arkema at left guard in Wang’s place this week. Via, the team’s utility lineman, has played primarily right guard this year in a rotation with Brent Benedict. Arkema filled in for Wang last Saturday, playing 23 snaps but looking out of sorts at times.
Fuller suffered a right shoulder contusion in the first quarter of the Pittsburgh game that kept him out the final three quarters. He thinks he hit a nerve, which didn’t allow him to raise his arm. He said Tuesday that he’s still not 100 percent, but he still participated at practice in a blue jersey.
Here’s the full injury report:
- Out for season — WR D.J. Coles (knee), OT Nick Acree (knee)
- Out: LG David Wang (ankle)
- Probable: CB Kyle Fuller (shoulder), WR Josh Stanford (knee)

Best wishes to all injured player.
Let’s go Hokies !!!
Best wishes to both guys on making speedy and healthy recoveries. The news about Wang means that our ‘solid’ offensive line is weakened by his absence. Gee, I hope the RB’s can maintain their previous pace of production by overcoming the inexperience of the replacements. I hope Logan Thomas doesn’t feel any additional mental pressure to make plays happen in real time while avoiding the D.
Nah, those shouldn’t be problems…
Tech was ‘unprepared’ for the Pitt game. That is so irritating. Tech has built this aura that they’re an elite team and so when they find out that they and their qb are both very overrated they say oh we just didn’t prepare well enough, we should have won if we’d prepared. No when you lose 35-17 against 0-2 Pitt, you have no excuse. Y’all weren’t unprepared, y’all just aren’t that good, and are very overrated. Good luck cracking the top 25 playing another high quality opponent-Bowling Green!
1. The only thing I can guarantee this Saturday is that VT’s D will play with a lot more fire.
2. But the offensive line is not something that can be noticeably improved overnight. If you can’t impose your will on Austin Peay, whom CAN you impose your will on???? They’ll get better, sure, but I would be surprised if they improve that quickly.
Mainly because of #1, I’ll slot in VT for a 17-10 win. The Vegas Line is baffling, but then again so has VT’s play been this year so you never know.
I predict that VT will go 10-4 this year with a victory in the Chicken Bowl. Any win over an SEC team, even a 7-5 one, is great. That 37-14 pounding of Tenn and Lane Kiffin was great. Over and out.
J, people like you are the one “building the aura” that VT is an elite team. Look around, VT fans and alumni aren’t the ones repeating this over and over.
I would just hate to see Kyle get hurt tomorrow so I hope they aren’t rushing him or allowing him to rush them.
Best to Wang. I like him and Ed both and wish them well.
I’m almost ready to say it ……… (wish we had a smaller font option)
…… go h …..
nope. not yet.
