All I want to know is “When will we start tackling again?”
I like “playmakers” but at the constant expense of 3 yards because slapping the ball out is more important than knocking people down.
How much do you feel Logan Thomas’ sub-par performance thus far this year has hurt his stock in the NFL draft. I know there is a lot of football left to play, but it has to have him thinking coming back next year might not be a bad idea. Are scouts looking at his potential on the next level versus his on the field performance taking the receiving corps and the O=line into consideration?
Is it accurate that Cincy has more better starters than VT?
That is the impression that I have gathered….Something like 13 of 22 better on Cincy side.
I keep hearing the coaches talk about getting into an offensive rhythm. What exactly does this mean. Throwing long on every first offensive play of each game is that to loosen things up for an entire game.
Andy,
You are doing a fine job here. I was skeptical at first, but you have taken this up a notch or three. That being said, Is Nappy even employed by the Roanoke Times any more. I think that that should be answered. I am not asking if he were fired because of the incident where he was found passed out in his car on the side of Orange Ave. I am asking if he is still an employee there period. I apologize for asking you about your predecessor. However, you have nothing to worry about. I would like to see King doing color commentary. He made me laugh. You better inform your audience.
Nappy’s still here. He’s covering VMI this fall.
Beamer begging people now to buy tickets to represent VT vs Cincy on the radio. Simply amazing.
Wow bummer for nappy !
Hmm you asked about coach BS and why the hatred.
-The offense (or scoring)is 3 pts worse from 01-11 when compared to 93-01. Obviously 00-01 bowl then 01-02 bowl being the divide of 01. Now coach RB was no mastermind you where either going to stop him or he would pound away. Point has not improved
-BS was moved from OL coach to TE coach. While BS is viewed as a very good recruiter VT has not had many go to the next level from either position (OL-TE) from 01-12.
-BS was removed from play calling duties in 11 and the offense was ranked the highest yet. I heard the reason he moved back into the box, but like a bad jinx what is happening this year.
-BS actually has more O players drafted then D players, however the O is not even close in comparison with the D in NCAA stats department. When your D is top 10 there is some wiggle room, but not with his ave O from 01-11.
-The same performance issues annually, this trend has to be broken. The O just has not been in sync but about 5-7 times under BS from 01-12.
-I would have to disagree with the top down philosophy. Think FB is hands off coach unless he wants an issue resolved. It is not like VT dumps the ball off on third downs, they typically go for the sticks or you might (rare) see a run deep in territory for field position. So my 2 cents is that does not hold them back.
-VT is kind of jack of all trades master of none on O.
-There are more issues than just those with the fans, but basically the O has not improved no matter the reasons. More players are getting drafted. Recruiting is viewed as marginally improving through the years slowly. The D improved by more than a point from 93-01 compared to 01-12. So giving up a point or more less per game during that time. The O for whatever and all the reasons is 3 or 2.96 (have to see the spreadsheet) less per game. In big games you need offense and VT’s comes up slightly short. There are allot of teams that lose to ranked opponents so that upsets some people but really many teams have that in common (what is USC 19-36) vs top 10 or something like that. Anyway you asked the question and those are some simple reasons. Some people have some good mapping of the O that has allot more information.
Personally I think he is minimized now as a coach. Should he have the title, well that is coach FB call and no one else’s. My 2 cents. I do wish he was back on the field and not in the booth, just too close for comfort and last year worked okay.
Andy, One of the things you’ll have to get used to with some of these Hokie fans is that they blame Stiney for everything that goes wrong but never give him credit when things go right. Not sure where these folks have coached before, but apparently they are all experts.
One of the things that helps Tech’s recruiting is the fact there is consistency in the coaching staff.
I would like…love…to see Stiney put together offenses like last years and better every year. As I have said repeatedly, one does not have to be a coach to recognize sub par work. I have no problem whatsoever in giving Stiney credit when he does something right. I do believe I commented positively on him last year. I do believe I said something about improvement and hoping that it continues. I hope he gets it turned around, starting tomorrow.
