Gregory doubtful; Wang, Maddy probable for UNC

Hokies running back Tony Gregory is listed as doubtful for the North Carolina because of a knee injury, according to Virginia Tech’s Thursday injury report.

Follow me on Twitter and Facebook.

Gregory, who had 88 rushing and receiving yards against Bowling Green, did not travel to Landover, Md., for last week’s game against Cincinnati. He had been in a blue, limited jersey during practice this week and was held out of Monday’s practice because it was indoors and on turf.

“If we have him, great. If not, that’s OK,” running backs coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday. “We’ll go down there with those three guys [Michael Holmes, J.C. Coleman and Martin Scales] and see what happens.”

Tech lists defensive tackle Luther Maddy (ankle) and left guard David Wang (ankle) as probable. Maddy suffered his injury early in the Cincinnati game and had been in blue for part of this week.

Wang was in a regular practice jersey this week and was close to a full participant. He traveled and dressed out last week but did not play. Offensive line coach Curt Newsome said Tuesday that he thinks Wang will start.

Here’s the full injury report:

  • Out for Season: OT Nick Acree (knee), WR D.J. Coles (knee)
  • Out: WR Joshua Stanford (knee)
  • Doubtful: RB Tony Gregory (knee)
  • Questionable: None
  • Probable: DT Luther Maddy (ankle), WR Christian Reeves (hamstring), LG David Wang (ankle)

Note: To be included on the weekly injury report, one must spend at least one day during game week in blue (limited) or green (no contact). If a player is not listed, he doesn’t meet the above criteria and practiced full all week, thus will play Saturday.

Game Status: Out = Player will not play, Doubtful = 25% chance a player will play, Questionable = 50% chance a player will play, Probable = 75%+ chance a player will play.

Big deal Andy! Even with these players in the game, wouldn’t make for a hill of beans. VT can’t beat it’s way out of a wet paper bag this year. Go NC caliber Hokies! UNC by 17. ESPN3? hahahahahaha! Where Foster needs to remain, the profanity spewing maniac! Out of sight, out of mind.

    Ancient Bobcat,

Take your medications and go down to Hardees and visit with the crew and talk politics. Obviously your DVR is down so you can’t watch reruns of the “Golden Girls”, my In-laws love them to! You need to cool down A.C. or there going to take away your visitation privileges and you computer time. Anyway it’s about time to catch the bus and your hover-round is fully charged. I hope you can come to some kind of peace because you obviously have issues. I ‘ll take Bud and VT 4-ever!

It’s clear that you can’t get him out of your mind.

Andy, Just got around to reading the online chat from Wednesday. Thanks for trying to be a voice of reason with the folks who are demanding changes and coach firings. There’s an old saying, “10% of the people make 90% of the noise”. Like a lot of fans, these folks see themselves a football experts even though most never played or coached the game on anything above a sandlot level. How you become so knowledgable sitting in the bleachers or on the sofa in front of the big screen TV, I’ll never know. I’ve never seen any of these folks post their coaching credentials, so credibility is doubted. I myself never played above the high school level, so I try my best not to criticize the coaches who are much more knowledgable than I, and I spend a lot of time in the bleachers of Lane and in front of the big screen. From some of their comments, they also must think coaches have nothing better to do than sit in front of their PC’s reading fans comments on blogs. Have you ever heard a coach at a news conference say, “Well, we fired that coach because Bob from Peach Junction thought it was a good idea.” Get real people. A coach who would do just as the fans of his team want will not be a coach for long. As for those people who say they are “real” fans and are not going to support the team until changes are made, I personally don’t think the Hokies need “real” fans like you. Go ahead, support someone else and enjoy yourself. I’m sure these same people will lambast me for these comments.

Oh I will be cheering the Hokies tomorrow. I will always cheer for them. Something is very wrong, and I dare hope that it has been fixed – or at least improved upon. It is down to brass tacks now. It is time to put my Maroon and Orange colored glasses on. VT 24 UNC 21.

    LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!

I agree justafan that a lot of folks go overboard in their yelling for coaching changes.

But at the same time, VT’s offensive struggles aren’t a new, sudden issue. Slow starts and sluggish, predictable offensive ‘strategy’ have been the norm for years now.

I’m not the type to call for coaches’ jobs, but in this case, I kinda understand. I’m not gonna yell with them, but I understand the frustration.

Would other big time programs, that VT aspires to be like, have allowed the sorts of offensive struggles that VT has experienced for this many years without doing something real about it by now?

Whatever Scott. We all have our own opinions, you don’t know me, I don’t care to know you. If you want to put up with this trash talk, your business. I don’t respond negatively to it. My posts are no more putting down VT than most on here, read them, Mr. Smart Remarks. Time to take my hover-round to the Seniors room and watch “The Golden Girls”, much more entertaining that what you will be watching Saturday. BTW, my comments on Foster are the same, he’s a smuck-head, only spelled differently. Have a wonderful day, Hotty Scotty.
