Left guard David Wang (knee/ankle) and reserve center/guard Caleb Farris (ankle) are listed as out on the report. But the omission of running back Tony Gregory (knee) and receiver Dyrell Roberts (concussion) means Virginia Tech expects both to play.
Gregory, one of four tailbacks who could get carries, has missed the last two games with a knee injury after finishing with 88 total yards against Bowling Green.
Roberts, a starting flanker, left in the first quarter last week after suffering a concussion on the Hokies’ opening drive. He didn’t practice Monday or Tuesday but has apparently passed the requisite tests to get back on the field.
Matt Arkema has worked at left guard in Wang’s place, with Laurence Gibson sliding over from right tackle to also take reps this week. Michael Via has gotten reps at center behind Andrew Miller in addition to right and left guard. Brent Benedict is also an option at right guard.
Tight end Eric Martin is listed as doubtful with a shoulder injury. He’s started the last four games but has had mostly a blocking role. Ryan Malleck or Randall Dunn would play if he can’t go.
