Gameday post: Virginia Tech at Boston College

You’re looking LIVE … at the lobby of the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston, where I’m putting together this blog post. There’s a very ’60s feel to this place. Maybe it’s because of the Frank Sinatra music playing in the background. I half expect Don Draper to walk through the lobby.

Anyway, Virginia Tech has a fairly significant football game this afternoon at Boston College. Here are a few links to get your gameday started.

** Follow me on Twitter and Facebook. I’ll be tweeting throughout the game.

** Here’s my game advance that tells you what’s at stake for the Hokies. Namely, bowl eligibility. Lose this one and Tech won’t make a bowl for the first time in two decades. Win and it has a chance if it can also beat Virginia at home.

** I predicted a 23-13 Hokies win in yesterday’s matchups post. What does everybody else think? Leave a prediction and a reason in the comments section.

** Columnist Aaron McFarling and I continue to do our weekly podcast. Give it a listen here.

** The injury report was pretty clean. Nothing major on there other than Michael Cole‘s neck injury, which we were told would keep him out of this game earlier this week.

** Corey Fuller and Demitri Knowles are expected to start today for seniors Marcus Davis and Dyrell Roberts at receiver. But senior Randall Dunn has also been elevated to the first team at tight end on the Hokies’ online depth chart. It would be his first career start if it happens.

** It’s a brisk 36 degrees outside the hotel right now, but it looks like it will be a sunny day, with temperatures getting into the mid-40′s at gametime.

** Tech is going with a pretty basic uniform choice again. Same all-white-uni, maroon-helmet look as at Miami, I believe.

UPDATE: Or not. Looks like Virginia Tech will have a special muscular Hokie Bird look today, with an unbalanced helmet that has a logo on one side and a number on the other. Interesting idea. Thoughts?

** The line opened at Hokies by 8.5 but has settled around 10. That’s a pretty big number for a Tech team that has lost seven straight away from Lane Stadium.

** Here’s a panorama shot I took of Alumni Stadium. Very nice campus up here. Picturesque.

** I’ll be back with a halftime update with how good the clam chowder was in the press box. I might even mention the game too, so check back.

Look for Va Tech to find it’s running game and let Thomas run wild. It will be close at the half. We always play rough up there but we turn it on in the second half and pull away 34-13. Back’s against the wall and come out swinging.

In your other article, several picked BC to win – OUCH again!

D will save the day as usual.

    VT 13
    BC 10

I wish VT would spend as much time on game prep as they do uniform design … well maybe they do since both are pretty ugly.

The new helmet is going to give the Hokies the psycological edge in this game Andy!! Gobble , Gobble , Gobble!!! BC players are going to be intimidated by the helmet…just kidding. My favorite NFL team the Steelers wore some type of throw back unis that looked like striped prison unis from the 30′s, and I swear it made a difference. Some things you just can’t explain.

Apparently, the football equipment managers were drunk on cough syrup when they designed the helmet. Fail.

Maybe if Frank & his Nike masters could stop obsessing over helmet & uniform designs, he could start to coach a Top 25 football team. But then again, we forget who writes his check. And the apologists refuse to discuss where we lost our way. We lost it when Frank decided the paycheck was more important than the W on the field. Cue the apologist posting the baseless comments about how the recruits of tomorrow DEMAND innovative gear to wear, and the apologists not being able to show how we get any more 4-star recruits – Heck, forget the 5-stars, we virtually never get close to them – by selling ourselves out to Nike on a continual basis.

Hey Crooked Road you forgot to mention those beamer 25, gutter, and stop in Commericals. Frank beamer only cares about his pocket now! Forget the chokie loyalists and the ones who defend the program because like it or not chokie nation he and his sorry staff never cared about your fans! Other than that I agree with you crooked its money over wins now and I guess the chokie nation doesn’t see it that way!

So where is the poster known as ‘Other John’? He was running his mouth about how no one was commenting on the UNC/UVa game blog Thursday night. Well, so far during this game 1 Hokie fan has commented on this blog. At least the UVa fans had an excuse, they were at the actual game. What the VT fans excuse since they are playing in Massachusetts?

Ugly helmets ,,,Looks like they have a frigging growth on their ear.

Beamer Best, or Worst ?? What a mess. A total wasted season. Absolutely nothing to brag about, and less to hope for the future. Next year is worse: no ‘Bama game, no Thursday nite slots. Rare ESPN coverage. Hokies, get used to watch your team on ESPN3 . Oh, how the Mighty have fallen ! !

Save your fingers writing about the game – just tell us about the chowder.

Nice Peppers Ferry its so true!!

Hey, Jeffery, get a clue, this isn’t considered an “in game” blog like McFarling does. People are respecting the format of Andy’s blog, unless how some of the UVA fans like to come litter a Tech in game blog that Aaron does.

Wow, this is just amazing.BC has only beaten one – ONE – FBS team this season. So, in Frank’s parlance, they’ll really get after ya out there…
