#1 the linked article is a straw man argument. For anyone to take the ten win streak over a national championship is foolish. Here’s why – Offer an undefeated national championship season paired with a 3-9 record two years later. Contrast that with a streak of eight ten win seasons with no wins of merit included.

Okay, what happens to the national championship team the other six seasons? Here’s what happened to Auburn since Frank Beamer’s ten win season streak began…

Auburn 2004: 13-0 undefeated season, beat VT in Sugar Bowl. 2005: 9-3 lost Capital One Bowl. 2006: 11-2 won Cotton Bowl. 2007 9-4 won ChikFilA Bowl. 2008: 5-7 no bowl game. 2009:8-5 won Outback Bowl. 2010: 14-0 undefeated national champions. 2011 8-5 won ChickFilA Bowl. 2012: 3-9 no bowl bid.

VaTech 2004: 10-3 lost Sugar Bowl to Auburn. 2005: 11-2 won Gator Bowl. 2006: 10-3 lost ChickFilA Bowl. 2007: 11-3 lost Orange Bowl. 2008: 10-4 won Orange Bowl. 2009: 10-3 won ChickFilA Bowl. 2010: 11-3 lost Orange Bowl. 2011: 11-3 lost Sugar Bowl. 2012: 6-6 waiting on lower tier bowl bid.

So you’ve got Auburn with – an 80-35 record over the nine years. A 6-1 bowl record. TWO undefeated seasons, with one national championship season. A 5-7 & a 3-9 season.

You’ve got VaTech with – a 90-30 record over the nine years. A 3-5 bowl record. No undefeated seasons, no championship game appearances. A 6-6 season.

Recite Beamer’s mantra about consistency all you want, but of the two options above, I’m taking the national championship every time. VaTech has NEVER won a national championship in team sports. Only played for it once in football, never came close otherwise.

Ask Clemson fans if they’d trade their national championship for some 10 win seasons instead of 8 or 9 win seasons. Ask GaTech if they’d trade their national championship. Ask BYU if they’d trade their national championship. You’ll get laughed at every time by every fan base, and in your heart you know it.

Somebody tell me the signature wins during our 10 win season streak? You want to hold that up as excellence when folks are arguing about national championships? Seriously? Oklahoma fan, Texas fan, F$U fan, Nebraska fan, Florida fan, Alabammer fan, Ohio State fan, LSU fan, include any other national championship team fan, all are talking junk about how great their teams are. What are Hokie fans going to say? ‘Uh… yeah, but… that one time… we beat Miami in Lane and it was really loud!…’ Talk about a ‘This one time… at band camp…’ moment…

Just forwarding, but I can understand one down season from that perspective.

Now Barry, Barry from Ivy, crooked road, whatever- I don’t think GT has a chance. Your sudden interest or support of them is interesting. Hopefully you’ll stop complaining about Virginia Tech now.

Good post Bob. This is the most level headed thing I’ve seen posted on this blog site. I would rather be perennial good than a 1 shot wonder. I had previously joined the Aristohokiebrats stance, which is get TFROCFB, but upon further review, I’d rather be consistent. Glad this is not 1861 at Fort Sumter, because we would all be too jumpy.

Louisville will play the hokies in Orlando , after they beat Rutgers tonite. That will make for an interesting bowl game in Orlando. Go hokies!

#7 There were a lot of empty seats in the visiting section at UGA Saturday. GT down sized their stadium several years ago, to about 45,000 I think, and still can’t sell out. When the Dawgs come to Atlanta there is more red in the stands than yellow.

Barry, Tech doesn’t even comes close to spending what Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Texas, USC and others do. Zillions? Double what you give now, and complete Lane to a100K stadium, then you can say TECH is competing with these teams. If you don’t want to spend that much, you’re really not competing. Changing coaches won’t fix the advantage the few teams that actually NCs have over teams that don’t have the budget. To be sure those teams have good coaches, but they really put their money where their mouths, or teams, are.

Yes, there will be thousands of fans from Georgia Tech at the game, it is their biggest game in a decade. You can keep counting them out but you will be surprised when they pull the upset.

Andy-refence ticket sales to the ACC championship. I saw a discussion on a national program about GT returning 2000 unsold tickets to the GA game. At 1 hour 20 minutes apart for a rivalry game that is bad. I wonder if GT will have any fans at all at the championship game.

Paula Johnson will have the Jackets ready; Tevon Washington is actually a more efficient, balanced-skilled QB than D J Manuels. This will be Tevon’s time on the National stage and I don’t think he is going to waste it. Obviously you can tell that I am more than optimistic but I have been around this game longer than any of you waxing eloquent on this blog site. This game is played on the field.
