Linebacker Jack Tyler a first-team All-ACC pick by coaches

For the first time, the ACC’s coaches voted on an all-league team. There were only minor changes from the media’s, but one included Virginia Tech linebacker Jack Tyler being on the first team.

The junior from Oakton finished third in the ACC with 112 tackles. He beat out Virginia’s Steve Greer, who was a first-team pick by the media.

The Hokies’ second-team selections were defensive end James Gayle and cornerback Antone Exum. Gayle received one first-place vote for Defensive Player of the Year, which had to come from Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher, since coaches couldn’t vote for their own players and the other 11 votes went to Seminoles.

Virginia Tech’s list of honorable mentions include receiver Marcus Davis, offensive tackle Vinston Painter, offensive lineman Michael Via, defensive tackle Antoine Hopkins, linebacker Bruce Taylor and cornerback Kyle Fuller.

Surprised to see Fisher voted for Gayle for Defensive Player of the Year but glad to see it.

Paul Johnson got a single vote as coach of the year? Hysterically funny.

Congratulation to Jack Tyler. That is well-deserved since he is a tackling machine in the same mold as Cody Grimm.

I think vote for coach of the year should be to abstain. It was a pretty miserable year all around for ACC football. Even the two best teams, FSU and Clemson, have had their issues with consistency.

Virginia Tech needs to recruit better players. It seems that other coaches and the media do not think much good about Tech’s players.

Deserved award for Jack Tyler. A blue collar worker that practices as hard as he plays.

Congrats to Jack Tyler. Another hard-nosed VT walk-on.
