Signee profile: LB Andrew Motuapuaka
Another Salem High product — the one in Virginia Beach — is officially a Hokie. Linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka, a teammate of quarterback Bucky Hodges, is the latest signee.
The 6-foot-, 225-pound linebacker is a three-star prospect who drew plenty of accolades after a senior season in which he had 115 tackles, 21 tackles for a loss and eight sacks. He also had three interceptions and five forced fumbles.
Motuapuaka earned first-team All-Tidewater recognition by the Virginian-Pilot, first-team All-Eastern Region honors and first-team All-Beach District honors.
His parents are from Tonga and went to school in New Zealand, where Andrew was born. His family migrated to the United States and his father joined the U.S. Army.
His last name is pronounced MO-too-uh-poo-WAH-kuh.

Andy,
I’m really impressed with this young man’s highlight film. He is a ball hawker and big hitter. Appear to have a little Palamalu in him the way he shows athleticism and flies to the ball. Could we have a sleeper here. Why do you think he was only a concesus 3-star?
