Early enrollee profile: QB Carlis Parker

2.06p parkerVirginia Tech’s had good luck with a left-handed quarterback around the turn of the century. Now it has another one.

Carlis Parker, a 6-foot-3, 180 pound quarterback from Statesville, N.C., is one of four 2013 prospects to have enrolled in school at the end of January.

Parker, who missed nearly all of his junior season with a lateral collateral ligament tear, threw for 1,181 yards and 12 touchdowns his senior season. He added 959 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. He pulled double-duty, playing safety on defense and finishing with 44 tackles.

His final college position remains unclear. He played some receiver at the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, a postseason showcase game, although his heart might still be at quarterback, which, for what it’s worth, is the position where the Hokies currently have him listed.

Frank Beamer was serious about me being a quarterback,” he told HokieSports.com. “A lot of schools wanted me to move to receiver, but he really wanted me as a quarterback. That said a lot.”
