Reports: Nation’s No. 1 recruit Da’Shawn Hand eliminates Hokies; QB David Cornwell visiting Blacksburg
Virginia Tech seemed to be in good shape for the 6-foot-4, 248-pound weakside defensive end from Woodbridge. He and defensive coordinator Bud Foster had a close relationship.
According to this article on SBNation, Virginia Tech not having a sports marketing program played a role in his decision.
Alabama has picked up steam lately in Hand’s recruitment. He also has Michigan and Florida in his top three, according to this tweet by Farrell.
Hand was in Chicago last weekend for the Rivals.com Five-Star Challenge. He was named the defensive lineman of the camp.
Virginia Tech has good news on another front: Norman, Okla., quarterback David Cornwell tweeted that he’s visiting Blacksburg today.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Cornwell is 247 Sports’ top-ranked pro-style quarterback. He’s also considering Alabama and Tennessee.
On another note, defensive back Kalen McCain from Durham, N.C., tweeted earlier this week and later confirmed to recruiting websites that he has decommitted from Virginia Tech. He had committed in April.
McCain’s change-of-mind leaves the Hokies with nine commitments for 2014.
