Thomas was one of 34 players to make the watch list for the award, which goes to the nation’s top quarterback.
Thomas, who previously made the Maxwell Award watch list (national player of the year), accounted for 3,500 yards an 27 touchdowns last year but was far from efficient in doing so. His completion percentage dropped to 51.3 and he threw 16 interceptions, things he’ll try to correct under new offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler.
He’s one of four ACC quarterbacks on the O’Brien list, joining Clemson’s Tajh Boyd, North Carolina’s Bryn Renner and Miami’s Stephen Morris. All four will be at the ACC’s Kickoff, the league’s media days, starting Sunday.
