The Hokies’ football equipment room Twitter account put out this picture in the early evening.
That’s maroon jerseys pants to go with the Hokie Stone helmet. It’s the first time the Hokies have worn maroon-on-maroon since the Miami game in 2009.
Virginia Tech also has the War Memorial pylons logo on the helmet. It said in the preseason it would use that logo at some point this year.
The athletic department describes the meaning of the logo like this:
“The upper level of the War Memorial contains Memorial Court with eight sculptured Indiana limestone pylons representing: Brotherhood, Leadership, Loyalty, Ut Prosim, Sacrifice, Service, Honor and Duty. Coach [Frank] Beamer starts every meeting and practice saying the first letter of this acronym (B.L.L.U.S.S.H.D) with the players responding with the corresponding word. At the back of Memorial Court is a cenotaph, which contains names of the seven alumni awarded the Medal of Honor.”
Kickoff in Atlanta is at 7:31 p.m.
