Exum has been ruled out of Virginia Tech’s game against Pittsburgh on Saturday, according to the Hokies’ official injury report released Thursday night.
Defensive coordinator Bud Foster was skeptical that Exum, who is coming back from surgery on his ACL, lateral and medial meniscus and a bone fracture of his right knee, would be able to dress this week after seeing him practice Wednesday.
By sitting out this week, Exum, who has been medically cleared to return, gives himself two more weeks to get his knee back in game shape. The Hokies have a bye week after the Pittsburgh game and don’t return to action until Oct. 26 at home against Duke.
“That’ll definitely be time for me to sharpen to perfection those things that I’m lacking or was lacking,” Exum said earlier this week. “Definitely can sharpen some things up and get in better shape.”
The only other player on the injury report is center David Wang (shoulder), who is probable.
