The Hokies’ 2014 game in Columbus, Ohio, has been moved up two weeks to Sept. 6 for TV purposes. ESPN approached both schools about changing the date to increase the possibility that they could get either a full national telecast at 3:30 p.m. on ABC or a primetime TV slot.
The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 20. The Hokies didn’t have a game Sept. 6 that presented a conflict.
Tech will open Aug. 30 at home against William & Mary before traveling to play Ohio State. It finishes its non-conference slate with games at home against East Carolina (Sept. 13) and Western Michigan (Sept. 27).
The Hokies’ 2014 ACC schedule includes home games against Georgia Tech, Miami, Boston College and Virginia and road games at Duke, Pittsburgh, North Carolina and Wake Forest. The dates for those games will be released this winter when the full ACC schedule comes out.
The Hokies and Buckeyes will play the back end of a home-and-home in 2015, opening the season on Labor Day Monday night on Sept. 7 in Blacksburg on ESPN.
