Cornerbacks Kyle Fuller (groin) and Antone Exum (ankle) have been ruled out of the Hokies’ game against Maryland at Lane Stadium on Saturday.
True freshmen Kendall Fuller and Brandon Facyson, who have combined for nine interceptions, will start in their place.
Kyle Fuller hasn’t been 100 percent since suffering a groin injury during the off week before the Duke game. He was in a no-contact jersey all week. Exum, who came back from offseason knee surgery against Duke, turned his left ankle against Miami in the second quarter and had to leave.
Tech’s two senior cornerbacks have played two snaps on defense together this year.
Two other players — receiver Carlis Parker (groin) and defensive end Matt Roth (head) — have been ruled out.
The Hokies have a long list of players who are probable on the injury report, including right tackle Brent Benedict (ankle), cornerback Chuck Clark (ankle), defensive end Ken Ekanem (hamstring), left tackle Jonathan McLaughlin (groin), long snapper Joe St. Germain (foot) and linebacker Chase Williams (hamstring).
Benedict, who had started seven straight games prior to his injury, traveled to Miami last week but didn’t play. Laurence Gibson started in his place. It’s unclear who will get the start this week.
