Fuller had surgery performed by Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia. Virginia Tech’s head athletic trainer Mike Goforth said Fuller is expected to recover in 4-6 weeks and will begin his rehabilitation as soon as he returns to Blacksburg.
Fuller has played sparingly since suffering a groin injury during the Hokies’ first off week, prior to the Duke game. He played on special teams against Duke but missed the Boston College and Maryland games. In between, he played only two defensive snaps against Miami before having to leave the game.
He’ll obviously miss the Virginia regular season finale on Nov. 30. The recovery timetable also puts his bowl game in doubt.
Fuller was having a strong senior season prior to the injury, with 24 tackles, two tackles for a loss, two interceptions and 12 passes defended.
He and fellow senior cornerback Antone Exum have played only two snaps together this season because of injuries.
With Fuller out, the Hokies will use Kendall Fuller, Brandon Facyson and, if he’s recovered from an ankle injury, Exum at corner against Virginia.
