Virginia Tech continued to get a jump on the 2015 class, getting a commitment from defensive end Michael Barnett of Ridgeville, S.C., according to 247 Sports’ Ryan Bartow.
Barnett joins Washington, D.C., defensive back Marcus Lewis on the Hokies’ 2015 commitment list. Lewis committed just before the home finale against Maryland. Commitments are non-binding for that class until recruits send in their letters of intent in February of ’15.
Barnett will formally announce his decision at a noon press conference.
The 6-foot-4, 248-pound defensive end from Woodland High is a four-star recruit by both 247 Sports and Rivals. 247 Sports ranks him as the No. 237 recruit in the ’15 class, the No. 11 strongside defensive end nationally and No. 4 player in South Carolina.
He had an impressive list, with Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, N.C. State and Tennessee having offered, according to Rivals.
Charley Wiles was Barnett’s primary recruiter.
Here’s an updated 2015 commitment list:
- DE Michael Barnett, 6-4, 248, Ridgeville, S.C. (Woodland)
- DB Marcus Lewis, 6-1, 180, Washington, D.C. (Gonzaga)
