Proposal to eliminate Virginia Commission for the Arts passed by House of Delegates
I’ve just received word that the House of Delegates has passed its budget bill by a vote of 61-38. This bill includes the proposal, much discussed on this blog, to completely eliminate the Virginia Commission for the Arts within two years (click here to see the discussion). (More discussion here.)
The Democratic-controlled Senate also passed its budget by a vote of 30-10. The Senate version freezes the funding for the commission at its current level.
The two versions will have to be reconciled by compromise, so it remains unclear whether the House of Delegates measure will ultimately be signed into law.
