More Info
We are trying to gather a big crowd to celebrate comics, reading, libraries and help promote our awesome city , our businesses and all the great things in Roanoke. Come see members of the Star City Roller Girls and more guests to come. If you are a merchant, band, juggler, dancer, etc and you want to promote your business please come and join in the fun and feel free to hand out flyers, coupons or free stuff!

Here’s a further explanation, from event organizer Jason Turner: “August 28th is ‘Read Comic Books In Public Day’ and I am trying to organize what I’m calling a ‘Geek mob.’ I want to get as many people of all ages together at the downtown library on that day at 6pm to read comics together for at least long enough to get some pictures taken for promotion. I’m hoping to get libraries, comic shops and bookstores involved. I’m also hoping to collect comic books and books for donation to charity after. I think it’s a great way to promote reading, local business, libraries, comics, Roanoke and our website that we have to promote the city, www.roanokedoesntsuck.com.”

I take it this is outside of the library? Because it’s closed that day.

That’s my understanding. Hopefully someone involved will weigh in if that’s not correct.

They’re now calling for us to get rain from Irene this weekend. If we do, is there a backup location and/or time?

    Hi There,

Yes, the library is involved and it will be closed that day. We are honestly just hoping for a window in the rain (may be kind of a long shot admittedly). However, in the event of rain, there is an overhang above the sunken theater area. Since this is the first “Geek Mob”, we are unsure what kind of attendance to expect. You bring up a good point though. Maybe we should look at our options for inside options. Stay tuned!
