Live at The Lyric is proud to present a Bicentennial Commemoration of the Civil War, as performed by The Barter Theatre Company.  Experience our nation’s history from an original perspective, based on factual accounts from our ancestors.

Civil War Voices is filled with the courage, sacrifice, personal suffering and triumph of the people and time that galvanized our nation, giving a perspective on the Civil War that is not contained in any history books. Written by James R. Harris and traditional music with original arrangements by Mark Hayes.

This stirring performance by visiting cast members of the renowned Barter Theatre includes passionate stories as told by those who experienced our civil war, and recorded their most intimate and revealing narratives waiting by the fireplace for their husbands and sons to return home.

“Civil War Voices is a stirringly stitched collage of authentic music, letters, remembrances and diary entries brings to life the feelings, hopes and despairs of long-ago-perished people”
