Tiny Hamlets

Have an interest in some tiny Shakespearean troubadours?

The Salem Montessori School elementary class will perform “An Evening of Shakespeare” on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at The Sanctuary, 1217 Maple Ave. S.W. in Roanoke. The event is free. For more information, call 387-1523 or email patricia@salemmontessori.org.

D-Day benefit

The Roanoke College Choir will perform classic and popular choral selections at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 631 N. Jefferson St. in Roanoke.

Though the concert is free, an offering will be collected to benefit the National D-Day Memorial Foundation in Bedford. For more information, call 375-2333 or visit roanoke.edu or dday.org.

Piano recital

Pianist Byron Petty will play a recital at 7 p.m. Tuesday called “Le Desir — From Passion to Passing Fancies” at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, 2339 Grandin Road in Roanoke.

The music includes compositions by Liszt, Honegger and Massanet. The concert is free but donations are encouraged. Sixty percent of proceeds will benefit St. Francis Service Dogs. For more information, visit the church’s Facebook page.

Viva l’Italia

Rockbridge Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. May 12 in Lexington Presbyterian Church in collaboration with Rockbridge Youth Strings and the Rockbridge Youth Chorale.

The program, titled “Viva l’Italia,” includes the overture to Gaetano Donizetti’s opera “The Daughter of the Regiment,” Ottorino Respighi’s tone poem “The Pines of Rome,” and the third and fourth movements of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
