Important notice for arts and culture personnel: Using the new Roanoke Times Calendar
Last week we published instructions about using our new online calendar, a tool that I know artists, musicians, theater companies, museums and other arts and culture-connected personnel need to know how to use. So here is a PDF that reprints was was in the paper Thursday, and here is more on the topic at the Refresh RT blog.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
We’d like to invite you to attend the second event of “One Night Standing: A Roanoke Reading Series,” our brand-new reading series at the Kirk Avenue Music Hall. It will be held Sunday, November 4th, at 7 pm. Last time was a smash and the audience helped make it a great success. We hope you all will be there again this Sunday!
Reading this week will be Virginia Tech professor and well-known fiction writer Matthew Vollmer, fabulous Blacksburg poet KMA Sullivan, and prolific Roanoke sports author Roland Lazenby.
After the reading there will be a brief intermission and book signing–bring some cash in case you find yourself intrigued with the authors’ work! There will also be refreshments available during the intermission.
The intermission will be followed by an open mic. Our open mic is a safe and fun space for local writers to share their work with the public and with other writers. Out of consideration for others we ask that you keep open mic performances to under 5 minutes–brevity is the soul of wit!
Visit our website at onenightstanding.org for author bios and further details, including directions to the venue.
We are funded by The Jackson Center for Creative Writing at Hollins University.
We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
The organizers of One Night Standing: a Roanoke Reading Series
