Auditioning for theater companies in the Roanoke region

I’ve been contacted through blog comments and e-mail by a handful of teenagers about auditioning for theater productions. At present I don’t know of any plays holding auditions, but I thought it might be handy to post a guide showing these young ladies and gentlemen where to look.

I’m not going to include college theaters. Here are theater companies whose websites and/or Facebook pages you should watch for audition notices.

In Roanoke:

Gamut Theatre

Mill Mountain Theatre

Roanoke Children’s Theatre

Showtimers

In Bedford:

Little Town Players

In Botetourt:

Attic Productions

In Montgomery County

New River Stage

Open Air Shakespeare NRV

In Floyd:

Locust Street Players

Any theater group that spots this and wants to be added, please let me know.

Thanks for doing this post Mike! I really urge local thespians of all ages to “friend” Gamut’s facebook page and share it with others as well. While we only do 3 shows a year, we tend to do pretty challenging material that offers actors (and audiences) something to dig their teeth into. Look forward to seeing many more folks both at auditions and performances!

Don’t forget No Shame for DIY theatre. Also, the best way to get involved is to go to shows and talk to the cast and crew.

True, though I suppose you don’t “audition” for No Shame. If any of these teens can stay up past 11 p.m. on a Friday, though, here’s the No Shame Facebook page.

Mike, the links for Showtimers and Attic take me to a page requiring a Facebook login. Here are the links I regularly use for them: http://www.showtimers.org/ (Showtimers) and http://www.atticproductions.info/ (Attic).

My son – who graduated high school in June, so he’s right in this age group – has done 2 shows each at Showtimers and Attic in the past 2 years and found them richly rewarding and the directors and adult actors he worked with very welcoming and nurturing.

Thanks, Laura. I gave the Facebook links on the assumption that they might be most useful to the target demographic, but websites help too.
