Beethoven’s violin sonatas in Roanoke and Radford

UPDATE: Cara Modisett with St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church adds to the item below (which appeared in Sunday’s column) that the charities to be benefited by the upcoming concerts are Blue Ridge Public Television (Tuesday, Nov. 6,) American Heart Association (Wednesday, Nov. 7) and ELCA World Hunger (Thursday, Nov. 8.)

Elan Duo

Violinist Andrew Smith and pianist Elina Christov, together known as the Elan Duo, will play Beethoven’s 10 sonatas for violin and piano at 7 p.m. Nov. 6-8 at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church at 2339 Grandin Road in Roanoke. A $10 donation is suggested. For more information, call 774-5183 or visit stelizabethsroanoke.org.

The duo will perform again 8 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Covington Center performance hall at Radford University. Admission is free. Radford University music professor Bruce Mahin wrote that in August the duo made a recording at Radford of the complete Beethoven violin sonatas to be released in 2013.
