Taubman Museum of Art to announce new executive director (UPDATED)
The Taubman Museum of Art will announce a new executive director, Della Watkins, at noon today, said museum spokesman Thomas Becher.
Watkins previously worked works as the chief educator at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond.
She replaces David Mickenberg, who stepped down in October. She officially starts at the Taubman Feb. 4.
More updates on this development will be coming throughout the day today. If you have any comments, feel free to sound off.

I am so thrilled that the Taubman Museum’s Board of Trustees has selected Della Watkins. I have worked with her during her tenure at the VMFA both during my time in Richmond and of course through partnerships with the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum at Hollins University. She is a brilliant educator and a real “people person” and am sure that the museum with flourish under her leadership. Amy Moorefield, Director, Eleanor D. Wilson Museum at Hollins University
Cue the bromides about how ethereal the new director will be, and how she’ll elevate the Taubman to the point where it is only slightly less a disastrous failure, all while the same condescending attitudes prevail towards the customer base. Anybody want to chime in on the glorious architecture while you’re at it?
