Art Gallery To Host Exhibition
of World Renowned Fantasy Artist Charles Vess

Opening Reception To Feature Original Illustrations And Book Signing
Of Artist’s Newest Release,
The Cats Of Tanglewood Forest

Abingdon, Va. — Mallory Fine Art will be hosting a month-long exhibition celebrating the release of world renowned fantasy artist Charles Vess’ newest book, The Cats Of Tanglewood Forest, from March 7 – April 6. A book signing by the artist will be from 5 – 8 p.m. during the Opening Reception on March 7. On display will be 57 original illustrations from this latest collaborative effort with Charles Lint (author of A Circle of Cats, the picture book on which The Cats of Tanglewood Forest is based).

Original illustrations as well as signed books by the artist will be available for purchase in the gallery and online. Public hours for this exhibit will be Tuesday through Saturday from 10 – 5 p.m. Group tours are available. Charles Vess is a world-renowned artist and a three-time winner of the World Fantasy Award, among many other distinctions. His work has appeared in magazines, comic books, and novels including Marvel (Spider-Man, Raven Banner) and DC (Books of Magic, Swamp Thing, Sandman). His recent work is found more in book illustration, such as The Ladies of Grace Adieu (Bloomsbury), Green Man – Tales from the Mythic Forest (Viking), Peter Pan (Starscape), and Stardust, written by Neil Gaiman and made into an acclaimed film by Paramount Pictures in 2007. Vess has also illustrated two picture books with Gaiman (Instructions and Blueberry Girl) that were New York Times bestsellers, as well as Drawing Down the Moon: The Art of Charles Vess, a 200-page retrospective of his art published by Dark Horse Books. Vess’ art has been featured in several gallery and museum exhibitions across the United States as well as in Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Italy. In 2009 he completed a 3-year project designing and co-sculpting of a 16’ bronze fountain based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA.

Vess, a Lynchburg, Va native, graduated with a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and worked in commercial animation for Candy Apple Productions in Richmond, VA before moving to New York City in 1976. It was there that he became a freelance illustrator, working for many publications, including Heavy Metal, Klutz Press, Epic Comics and National Lampoon. Presently he lives on a small farm and works from his studio, Green Man Press, in Abingdon, VA.

Charles De Lint is the much-beloved author of more than seventy adult, young adult, and children’s books, including The Blue Girl, Dingo, The Painted Boy, Under My Skin, and A Circle of Cats. Well known throughout fantasy and science-fiction circles as one of the trailblazers of the modern fantasy genre, he is the recipient of the World Fantasy, White Pine, Crawford, and Aurora awards. De Lint is a poet, songwriter, performer, and folklorist, and he writes a monthly book-review column for the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. He resides in Ottawa, Canada.
