From my Inbox to you, from the city of Roanoke, a rather unusual intersection of policy review and televised entertainment. Karl Kleinhenz, housing planner in the Department of Planning, Building and Development, says the presentation is free and open to the general public, but seating is limited so those interested are asked to register online by clicking “Fair Housing” at roanokeva.gov/housing.
On Monday, Dec. 16, the City of Roanoke, along with the city’s Fair Housing Board and the Roanoke Valley Apartment Association, will present an informative seminar on hoarding. Cory Chalmers, host of the A&E Channel’s Hoarders, will be the guest speaker for this event from 9 a.m. until noon at the Jefferson Center Fitzpatrick Hall.
Chalmers is the CEO and founder of Steri-Clean, Inc. and 1-800-HOARDERS.com, and has 18 years of experience in the biohazard and hoarding remediation industry. Steri-Clean, Inc. responds to over 1,500 biohazard and hoarding cases each year, and is contracted by dozens of cities throughout California as well as management companies, hotels, and Fortune 500 companies.
Recently designated as a disability by the American Psychiatric Association, hoarding presents a variety of challenges to housing providers in their efforts to remain compliant with the Fair Housing Act.
