I need your advice. I’m a hundred pages into a 300 page book. It’s a bestseller and high rated. However, at this point I find it poorly written, disturbing in content and the characters are stupid. It’s like watching a train wreck.
Part of me wants to keep reading because it’s so awful, but at the same time I’m disgusted with it. The only reason I would continue is in hopes that it turns out better than I envision it to, which I highly doubt given the comments I’ve, since then, read on Barnes & Noble and Amazon. I don’t understand why it’s gotten the publicity it has gotten.
I wish I hadn’t started it. I’d like my $9.99 and time spent back. But since I have started and paid for it, I need to make the decision to I delete it and pretend I never laid eyes on the book or finish it just to have finished it?
It’s not that I’ve never stopped reading midway through a book. I have, but normally it’s because I get bored with it or get drawn into something else. With this book, every time I decide to delete it the stupid characters dig their claws in and refuse to exit my brain.
Am I giving up too early? Could there be something redeemable about the book? People had to have liked it or it wouldn’t be a bestseller. But then again we all know bestseller does not equal good book. This is why you shouldn’t buy a book simply because it’s getting good press and you’re curious.
Grrr. If I finish it and it doesn’t get better, I’ll rant about it for days. It’s best to delete it. So why’s it still on my Nook?
And no, I’m not telling you what it is because I don’t want to be associated with it… but if you guess DON’T READ IT.
Do you ever have this problem? At what point do you decide to give up on a book?
