Have you seen the trailer for “Life of Pi”?

Life of PiJust saw the official movie trailer for “Life of Pi,” directed by Ang Lee.

Is anyone else besides me excited to see this? “Life of Pi” by Yann Martel is one of my all-time favorite books.

I remember picking it up for the first time and thinking ‘this doesn’t sound interesting. How can the story of a boy in a lifeboat with a zebra, hyena, orangutan, and a Bengal tiger be captivating enough to be a full  length novel.’ I probably wouldn’t have read it had it not been a book club pick, and boy would I have missed out.

The story is much more than a shipwreck and a young man’s survival across the ocean in a 26-foot lifeboat accompanied by a 450-pound Bengal tiger. It’s about how and what he did to survive the ordeal. It’s a moving, harrowing and at times funny story.

If you have not read it, I highly suggest you do especially if you plan to see the movie. And if you read it, it’s imperative that you read the whole book, author’s note and epilogue to get the full meaning.  Speaking of which, for those of you who have read it and know what I’m talking about, I wonder how that part will be handled in the move. I’m assuming it’s  in there because according to IMDb Toby McGuire is playing Yann Martel.

The movie’s release date is November 21.

What do you think of the trailer? Have you read the book?

About this blog

Books editor Suzanne Wardle read cereal boxes, lists of ingredients and just about anything when she was a child, so it’s no wonder she grew up to read for a living at a newspaper. She posts reviews, news, discussion topics and musings on literature of all types. When she’s not reading, she’s out on the greenway with the dog, testing recipes in the kitchen and trying to persuade friends to watch bad monster movies with her.
