Irish writer Maeve Binchy passed away yesterday at age 72

According to Irishtimes.com New York Times bestselling author Maeve Binchy passed away yesterday at age 72 after a short illness.

She wrote 16 novels, several of which were made into TV and feature films. She also wrote short stories, plays and was a journalist and editor for the Irish Times

Irishtimes.com quotes Binchy as saying, “I don’t have any regrets about any roads I didn’t take. Everything went well, and I think that’s been a help because I can look back, and I do get great pleasure out of looking back…I’ve been very lucky and I have a happy old age with good family and friends still around.”

Many of you are probably familiar with her work. If you are, what would you recommend? What are your favorite memories of her books?

Here’s a video of Maeve talking about her last book, “Minding Frankie” that came out September 2010.

About this blog

Books editor Suzanne Wardle read cereal boxes, lists of ingredients and just about anything when she was a child, so it’s no wonder she grew up to read for a living at a newspaper. She posts reviews, news, discussion topics and musings on literature of all types. When she’s not reading, she’s out on the greenway with the dog, testing recipes in the kitchen and trying to persuade friends to watch bad monster movies with her.
