World Fantasy Convention

The 2012 World Fantasy Convention is being held November 1-4 in Toronto, where the winners of the World Fantasy Awards will be announced. The nominees for the novel category are listed below.

I haven’t read any of these yet, but I have started the “Song of Fire and Ice” series. I’m halfway through “A Game of Thrones.” I’m looking forward to reading “A Dance with Dragons,” but from the size of the previous books in the series, it may take me a while.

Also, at the convention, World Fantasy Lifetime Achievements Awards will be given to Alan Garner and George R.R. Martin.

Has anyone else read any of these books? What are your thoughts on them?

•  ”Those Across the River,” Christopher Buehlman (Ace)
•  ”11/22/63,” Stephen King (Scribner; Hodder & Stoughton as 11.22.63)
•  ”A Dance with Dragons,” George R.R. Martin (Bantam; Harper Voyager UK)
•  ”Osama,” Lavie Tidhar (PS Publishing)
•  ”Among Others,” Jo Walton (Tor)

About this blog

Books editor Suzanne Wardle read cereal boxes, lists of ingredients and just about anything when she was a child, so it’s no wonder she grew up to read for a living at a newspaper. She posts reviews, news, discussion topics and musings on literature of all types. When she’s not reading, she’s out on the greenway with the dog, testing recipes in the kitchen and trying to persuade friends to watch bad monster movies with her.
