Read for the Record today October 4, 2012

Today is Jumpstart’s Read for the Record. According to their website, “Jumpstart is the only national supplemental program that leverages the power of community and adult-child relationships to build the key language and literacy skills children need to take on the world.”

In an effort to encourage literacy and bring attention to the importance of education, the Read for the Record campaign asks that you read to a child today and be part of the world record. You can go here to be counted.

We Give Gooks is encouraging support through their free online Bug Squad club inspired by “Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad,” written by David Soman and Jacky Davis. Not only will you help set a record, but you can make and share a message and also donate books.

About this blog

Books editor Suzanne Wardle read cereal boxes, lists of ingredients and just about anything when she was a child, so it’s no wonder she grew up to read for a living at a newspaper. She posts reviews, news, discussion topics and musings on literature of all types. When she’s not reading, she’s out on the greenway with the dog, testing recipes in the kitchen and trying to persuade friends to watch bad monster movies with her.
