A 32-year-old Blue Ridge man has been arrested in connection with two break-ins and one attempted break-in that involved Botetourt County drug stores and emulated the 2002 streak of “Boulder Bandit” break-ins in the county, Sheriff Ronnie N. Sprinkle announced Friday.
Sheriff Sprinkle identified the man as Scott I. Mitchell, who is being held in the Botetourt County jail, charged with two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of grand larceny, and one attempted breaking and entering. In all three incidents, large rocks were thrown through windows to gain entry, the sheriff said.
Mitchell was arrested Thursday night at his home.
Sheriff Sprinkle described the series of incidents as beginning May 5 with a breaking and entering, with theft of prescription drugs, from Blue Ridge Pharmacy, near the intersection of Laymantown Road and Blue Ridge Boulevard (US 460). An attempted breaking and entering there on May 15 failed because the rock used was too small, the sheriff said. In a similarly executed but successful breaking and entering May 19 at the Down Home Pharmacy, located near the intersection of Read Mountain Road and Cloverdale Road (Alternate US 220), cash and prescription drugs were taken, Sprinkle said. Some of the missing prescription drugs were recovered at Mitchell’s residence, the sheriff reported.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled June 11 in Botetourt County General District Court.
