Crossings Christian Church coming soon to Greenfield
A local minister says a new contemporary style church service for the unchurched will soon begin in the Daleville area. Crossings Christian Church is the name of the church and is based on Isaiah 48:17
Rev. James Terry lives in North Botetourt County (with his wife Rhonda and son Tyler) and has participated on a committee for an outreach called Virginia Vision. Christian churches as a denomination are loosely affiliated he said. However, they have "planted" churches -- new start-ups -- in Tidewater, northern Virginia and Richmond. This will be the first planted church in SW Va. He is originally from Christiansburg and feels he is the perfect fit for the new church.
Services will be held in Greenfield Education and Technical Center.
"Sixty per cent of the American population is unchurched," said Terry. "Ours will be a contemporary services with music much like you hear on Spirit FM. We are after those people who need a church home." Their target age group is 25-45 (and with children they think will be great as well.) "67% of the 18 year olds in this country do not go to church after they leave home."
"Our intent is to become involved in the community-- we hope to volunteer with the Christian Free Clinic, clothing closet and all valuable community resources," he said.
Beginning in June they will have opportunities for people to come out and meet and greet them. The first opportunity is a mailing on June 7 and a service on June 15 followed by a service on July 13, August 24 and a family back to school type fair inside and out side of the Greenfield Ed and Tech Center on August 30. Services will begin weekly on September 14.
