Daleville sees plenty of through hikers
The Appalachian Trail brings them through by the dozens this time of year especially to Kroger, Outdoor Trails and Mill Mountain Coffee Shop. Many hikers are about midway on their trek to Maine.
AT hikers generally have a moniker they use on the trail and these two pictured are from Wisconsin and call themselves “Turtle Fast” and “Little Bear.” They both quit their jobs– he as a marketing manager and she as an internet banker and hit the trail in Georgia on April 9. They are termed “North Bounders.”
“We have seen just about every kind of weather,” Turtle Fast noted.”It snowed in Georgia, we have been in torrential rains and lately we have been in hail.”
They expect to be in Maine by October. Our local woman, Rebecca McDonald of Daleville passed into Pennsylvania gracefullybound.blogspot.com for an update on her trail experiences.
Our last post about the Appalachian Trail was June 20 — “How bad do Appalachian Trail hikers smell? And our last post about Rebekah McDonald was April 23.
