June 25, 2008Eagle Rock Library plans approvedLibrarian Steve Vest and architect Glenn Reynolds with the final Eagle Rock Library design. At the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday June 25 at Greenfield Technology Center, the final plans for the new Eagle Rock were approved. Glenn Reynolds of Reynolds and Associates (they have designed most of the area libraries) brought forth renderings of the parking lot, interior plans and a finalized exterior plan for the new building. As County Administrator Jerry Burgess stated, "is just a little behind schedule." The building will be 9,576 square feet with a meeting room and a computer lab plus computers spread through out the building for a total of 18 computers. There will be 72 parking spaces in the lot and two full time employees and two-part-time on tap for the building. But the delay has been for good reason. When the public hearing asked for public input in early spring, they got it. "The public was very much involved with suggestions," said Reynolds. "The Library Committee with the library board and supervisor Don Meredith did a fine job," said Head Librarian Steve Vest. Indeed, Meredith helped locate the land and with board support the county purchased the land and began the process. There were two different designs originally, but with public in put the lodge style with wood exterior and stone was been chosen. One public comment summed the exterior best, "Eagle Rock wants to be unique." The final design met with the supervisors approval they praised all involved in the community, the committee and supervisor Meredith for their diligence. Supervisor Terry Austin lauded the establishment of the library as a very positive move for the north Botetourt County community. Meredith said later, "It will be a community center for the area and it will meld well with the school on the hill above as well as make a distinct impression on those who see it from US 220." We had a previous post on the Eagle Rock library plans on April 24. |
