bot_lordbotetourtvssalemSMALL.jpg

We have a photo gallery of 13 photos from Friday night’s Salem – Lord Botetourt game, which Salem won 42-20. We have both action photos such as the one here — that’s Emory Straub of Lord Botetourt, No. 8, in white, being being pursued by Ryan Dowe — and scene shots like the one below of the Lord Botetourt fans.

These photos are by Kyle Green. (A Salem fan has also posted 205 photos from the game, as well, if you’d like to see her gallery.)

Do you have photos from the game — or any game involving teams or players from Botetourt County, for that matter? Doesn’t matter if it’s varsity, junior varsity, middle school or rec league — you can share your photos at news@botetourtview.com and we’ll post ‘em here.

Photo gallery: James River defeats Celtics 19-12

theimerscoresblog.JPG

Though penalty ridden at times, the James River Knights gave Roanoke Catholic a good measure too on Friday night. Those yellow flags however caused a run for another touchdown by Brandon Garrett to be called back.

Theimer scores a TD for the Knights

The Knights won 19-12. The Celtics were powerful in the 2nd quarter but otherwise looked lackluster during the game. River struggled with PAT’s getting one of three, but otherwise moved the ball well. Eric Theimer and QB Jordan Talbott looked especially tough on offense.

Cheve Tolbert on defense was a mighty man against the Celtics. The Knights will have another home game next Friday night.

We have a photo gallery of 19 photos from the James River – Roanoke Catholic game.

Central Academy clobbers Roanoke Catholic

mcbaneblog.JPG

Central Academy Middle School beat Roanoke Catholic Middle School soundly with a 44-0 victory which may be a record for the school. They played Friday afternoon before the varsity game between James River and Roanoke Catholic.

Michael McBane returned the opening kick-off for a TD

They looked awesome in the hot humid afternoon– completely dominating play. Justin Stevers
and Sherman Austin acted as QB’s for the Patriots. Stevers ran for a touchdown. Chris Moore ran for one, Michael McBane scored two on kick-off returns and Dylan Bryant scored 2 touchdowns as well. A well played game for the Patriots. Coach Tony Lewis was excited for his team and their season opener.

The band Five Minutes Later rocks Botetourt — and beyond

fiveminslaterblog.JPG

Back in May, the band Five Minutes Later rocked its way to win the Lord Botetourt Battle of the Bands.

Well, now it’s a little more than five minutes later . . . more like three months later . . . and here’s an update on the band.

Tonight, the band plays at The Coffee Pot in Roanoke. 9:30 p.m. till closing…under 21 OK if accompanied by parent. We have it on good authority that lead guitarist Alex Tam “will be blowing some dust off the log beamed rafters at the Pot with Eddy Van Halen’s latest
Half Stack / Vacuum Tube Power Head.”

If you miss the band there, you can catch ‘em again at Party in the Park in Troutville on September 13.

Here’s the band’s line-up (if you didn’t already know) . . .

Lead Vocals / Guitar……”JT” James Campbell…. Eagle Rock (Class of ’07, James River)
Lead Guitar / Back-up Vocals……Alex Tam…. Troutville (Class of ’09, LB)
Percussion / Back-up Vocals……Travis Grahame….Blue Ridge (Class of ’10, LB)
Bass Guitar / Back-up Vocals…..David Vineyard…..Cloverdale (Class of ’08, LB)

. . . and an update from proud parent/publicist Edwin Tam:

Your online guide to the August 29 issue of The Botetourt View

bot_fansSMALL.jpg

The calendar still says August, but the chill in the air says fall. So does the scene at left, from last week’s Lord Botetourt-James River football game. Fall sports are kicking off — sometimes literally.
And that makes now a good time for a few programming notes:

* We want your fall sports photos. If you have photos that involve teams or players from Botetourt County, you can share them at news@botetourtview.com. We’ll post them here — and use as many as we can in full color in our weekly print edition, which reaches more than 90 percent of the households in Botetourt County. We can’t be everywhere with our cameras, but you’re already there, so send ‘em on! (How do we do that 90 percent thing? See below!)

* Check here for junior varsity and middle school scores. Our cousins in the sports department at The Roanoke Times publish varsity scores, but not lower age levels. We will, and we have. Here are the most recent results from Lord Botetourt and James River. We care about all sports at all age levels. If you’re not seeing your school’s action here, ask ‘em to send it — or you can send your own report. Rec league, too!

We also introduce a new special feature this week — an online poll.

When should the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors meet — by day or by night? Vote in our poll, and weigh in with comments, if you’d like.

And now . . . .In Friday’s print edition, you’ll see places where we say “see the Notebook” for more. Here’s a guide to where to find those online extras:

* Three arrested in Daleville Subway break-in
* 24-hour health club coming to Bonsack
* Lord Botetourt grad supervises presidential poll
* Lee and Leslie Dunbar from Eagle Rock take first places at Old Fiddler’s Convention
* Author Homer Hickam comments on our blog about James River’s summer reading list
* Cathy Benson’s Terrific Tuesday column
* Fincastle Rescue Squad holds open house
* More back-to-school photos
* Another photo from Cheryl Lunsford’s guitar camp
* Who’s selling beer to your kids? See which stores have been busted for selling to underage buyers.

And in sports…
* Webcast features video from James River- Lord Botetourt football game.
* Photo gallery from James River – Lord Botetourt junior varsity football.
* Photo gallery from SJ Carter from James River – Lord Botetourt varsity football.
* Photo gallery from Kyle Green from James River – Lord Botetourt varsity football.
* Photos of the Lord Botetourt field house
* More photos of the Scrappers softball team
