County will include recent home sales in fair market value for reassessments
Botetourt County announced today that the Botetourt County reassessment is beginning with a market study of property sales in the county. Wampler-Eanes Appraisal Group of Daleville is conducting the market study, which it expects to be complete by December 31. Sate Law requires that localities periodically adjust real estate values to 100% of fair market value for tax purposes. the county is up to reassess for taxes in 2006.
A team of appraisers will inspects parcels of land recently sold for inclusion in the sales study. The sales study will establish a baseline of comparable value for the various types of properties in Botetourt County. The baseline will then be used to reassess parcels to fair market value.
A team of Wampler- Eanes personnel in clearly marked cars and bearing identification will be going through the County in the next three months.
The company was appointed by the Board of Supervisors this summer to carry out the reassessment.
Wampler- Eanes can be contacted at 992-2273.
